Current Rates

These rates are for water only. Sewer rates are based on the meter reading provided by the Water Department.

Please notice that a minimum bill is based on a 2,000 gallon usage. In other words, each resident with a 5/8 inch meter pays a minumum bill of $15.23. Nearly all residents have this size of meter. The $15.23 includes the first 2,000 gallons of water. Any usage above the 2,000 gallons will be billed according to the charts below. Since most residents use less than 20,000 gallons, line "b" shows the common rate for most households for each of the next 18,000 gallons used.

How Rates Are Calculated

When the Water Department employee collects your meter reading, he supplies it to the Clerk's office where it is compared to your previous month's reading. The billing system bills in units of one thousand gallons.

 Here is an example:

Last month's reading may be 1121.5.
This month's reading may be 1123.9.

The employee would record the entire number, but would subtract 23-21 showing a 2,000 gallon usage. If the customer would have used another 100 gallons, the reading would have been 1124.0, which would have resulted in a 3,000 gallon usage.

Knowing this may help you understand why you sometimes see an inconsistent amount of usage. Some of the water you use in one month may be billed on the next month if it wasn't enough to reach the next increment of 1,000.
