Building Permit Review

Request for Permit Application Review

The building inspector will review the request for a permit application and contact the property owner regarding the status of a permit application. If approved, a permit will be eligible to be obtained. If there are questions regarding the project, the building inspector will contact the property owner to obtain additional information. Any project that involves new construction, i.e. attached or detached structures, sheds, fences, room additions, must provide a dimensioned site plan at the time of request to properly identify the intended improvements.

Sec. 5-89 - Issuance

  1. Prior to the issuance of any building permit hereunder, the building inspector shall review applications to determine compliance with the provisions of this article. When required by the building commissioner, applications shall be accompanied by a set of plans drawn to scale and shall be of sufficient clarity to indicate the nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of this code and all relevant laws, ordinances, and regulations. The building inspector may review any application for a period of ten (10) working days to allow other departments review time.
  2. The building inspector may issue a permit for the construction of part of a building or structure before the entire plans and specifications for the whole building or structure have been submitted or approved provided adequate information and detailed statements have been filed complying with all the pertinent requirements of this article. The holder of such permit shall proceed at his own risk without assurance that the permit for the entire building or structure be granted.
  3. One (1) set of plans, specifications, and computations shall be retained by the building inspector and one (1) set of approved plans and specifications shall be available on the site for which the permit was issued at all times during which the work authorized thereby is in progress.
  4. The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans and specifications shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of the provisions of this article.
  5. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this article shall be valid, except insofar as the work or use which it authorizes is lawful. The issuance of a permit based upon plans and specifications shall not prevent the building inspector from thereafter requiring the corrections of errors in plans and specifications or from preventing building operations being carried on thereunder when in violation of any ordinance of the city.
